2010 Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel

Download Fact Sheet (pdf)

We get that some grapevines need to be replanted when they get geriatric. But not Zin. Definitely not Zin. For this old-vine Zinfandel, we chose vineyards in San Joaquin County where warm days are punctuated by cool nights. The grapes stay dry, just what Zinfandel likes, but the roots have pushed deep to find water and nutrients, so the fruit is both juicy and concentrated. The 2010 season in Lodi saw cool, even temperatures throughout the growing season, with just enough extra warmth in September to push along ripening. What that brought about were mature, textural tannins—the kind you expect from old vines. You’ll get taken over by aromas and flavors of black cherries, currants, clove, and cocoa, with soft, full tannins and balanced acidity for an achingly long and oh-so-pleasant finish.
